There’s a lot of talk/post on 30 BAD about vegan pet food…but my cats and dogs aren’t vegan! My dog dreams someday we’ll end up on a deserted island and I will NEED her to hunt rabbits, my cats would love to eat bird brains all day and kill for kicks, if such behavior didn’t turn me into a hysterical screaming demon. We compromise on local grass-fed or wild caught meats, my (very spoiled) free-range chicken eggs and vegetables. They’ve been on that homemade, natural diet for over 6 months, and there have been pronounced improvements in their health: my dogs are both eight-year-old rescues, and one had terrible plaque problems (she’s a malanois mix, so cenventional descaling is out) and both had “dog breath”! I was recently pressured (by my mom) to feed them regular dog food, even though they’re amazingly healthy, running 5+mi a day, clear eyes, thick glossy coat, perfect weight, great energy, and NO plaque or dog breath(!!!!). Well, she’s my mom, so I did pick out grain-free, naturally-sourced dog food so good I could eat it and introduced it gradually. Well, first off, my malanois turned her nose up at the bagged food! I persisted, gradually over two weeks as to avoid digestive upset, and -return of the dog breath! Since they were both so happy and healthy on the real food, I’m planning to gradually switch back. Any experience/non-troll input?
